Many Filtration Systems for Your Aquarium
There are three different types of filtration systems that we want to present to you in order to help you maintain an aquarium for your pets. The choices are either the biological, mechanical or chemical filtration system.
Mechanical Filtration
The siphoning action of a powerful mechanical filtration system will remove the particles that float freely in the aquarium water. This will significantly aid in keeping the water from becoming cloudy and contaminated.
Biological Filtration
The most beneficial of the aquarium filtration systems is the biological filtration system. This system is so very important because it aids in the growth of good bacteria that converts the harmful ammonia to nitrite, and then converts the nitrite to nitrate – otherwise known as the Nitrogen Cycle. This filtration system is essential in the raising of tropical fish.
Chemical Filtration
In order to eliminate the dissolved wastes from the water in the aquarium, a chemical filtration system would be most desired. Activated carbon is one of the methods most commonly used to help reduce the ensuing odors. However, some do not find it a convenience due to the fact that the carbon needs to be replaced often in order to avoid the wastes being released back into the water. Zeolites will also aid in removing the toxins from your aquarium water and can be a lifesaver if your aquarium contains high levels of ammonia.
One of the most common mistakes made by new aquarium owners is to add too many fish to their aquarium before it has cycled, which may cause a loss of fish. Using the zeolite chemical filtration during the process of cycling can help prevent the loss while the aquarium is completing the nitrogen cycle.
