Experience On My First Job

September 17, 2010 at 5:47 pm (Cool Stories)

Working in a storage warehouse is a rough job. When I was still in high school my very first job was in a business that stored thousands of files for the immediate businesses. We had hospital records, crucial files from law offices, and boring files from other average businesses. It was my job to go through the data entry and know where everything was. It was other people’s job to store and retrieve anything that was requested.

There were many rows of storage that were quite a few feet into the air. The only way that we were able to transport so much and reach these all of the files was to utilize the scissor lift. I didn’t usually work inside of the warehouse that frequently – but when I did I took pleasure in riding the lift.

It was a ton of fun to travel high into the air and hold on tight so that you wouldn’t have the feeling of falling when you looked down. After a little bit I decided to drive it. This might look easy – but in fact is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do!

These machines are rigid and there is hardly any room to operate around the warehouse. You had to discover what direction to turn the control stick when backing out of an aisle and how to turn just right so that you didn’t run anything over. Without the right amount of training it would be impossible for anyone to know what to do.

My coworker eventually me that he had to take a number of scissor lift training classes that instructed him on what every control was, how to drive, and all of the safety issues that had to be covered before he started it up each day. It is complex – but I can understand now it is worth it.

Belgian Breaks Blind Speed Record In Lamborghini

October 22, 2008 at 9:21 pm (Cool Stories)

We have heard of some pretty crazy records that people participate in and try to break. One of the more difficult one to break is the Blind Speed Record. Not only is this a scary one to break – but only those who are blind can participate in it.

Luc Costermans has been blind for four years now and has made his new condition something not to get down over. He managed to borrow his friend’s Lamborghini Gallardo and drove it at 192 mph.

He and his co-pilot (who is kissing the ground right now) were happy to be able to beat the record. They drove the car on an airstrip in Istres, France. “I’m very, very happy. It’s a team effort,” Luc said after the run.
